What is an Insulin Schedule?

Insulin Schedule is the name given for the routine of checking blood glucose levels (BGLs) and injecting insulin to regulate BGLs for maintaining health and reducing the disease risks associated with diabetes.

A schedule consists of the frequency (how many doses) and timing (when a dose is given) for insulin a person with diabetes needs each day. It is highly personalised to each persons needs and may change with age or changes in levels of health.

An Insulin Schedule may be somewhat flexible, to accommodate changes in food and beverage consumption as they impact on dose. However they are usually unchanging in the timing and frequency of checking BGLs to determine insulin dose amounts.
